SMD LED T8 - Solid state lights consist of a long thin circuit board filled with rows of LED lights facing in the same direction and wrapped in an acrylic tube with bi-pins affixed on the ends that are manufactured to the same lengths as T8 fluorescent tubes. This allows directional light to be employed at lower wattage's than current fluorescent tube technology. Other benefits are that the light does not flicker, the bulbs produce less heat, the fixture's ballast is bypassed (more energy savings and less heat) and they are more environmentally friendly as fluorescent technology contains mercury and other gases.
