Water is the driving force of all nature. - Leonardo da Vinci

Water management is an interdisciplinary field concerned with the management of water resources. In other words water management is the activity of planning, developing, distributing, managing and optimum use of water resources under defined water polices and regulations. Omega is concerned with helping customers ensure that a supply of clean, potable water will be available to people who need it, while at the same time balancing the needs of industry and the environment.

A comprehensive water management plan helps kick-start a successful water management program by helping a facility set water conservation goals and identify water conservation opportunities.

A water management plan typically includes clear information about how a facility uses its water, from the time it is piped into the facility through to disposal (waste water). To establish a good water management plan, it is essential to determine or measure current water consumption and its costs to make the most appropriate water management decisions.

In order to properly manage water conservation projects, it is important that all water be accounted for through precise measurement, such as water meters. It is necessary to have measurements not only to plan how to address water conservation, but also to monitor and track progress made in these programs as well as to adjust and make changes. Intelligent electronic water meters may be easily integrated with existing energy management systems to provide real time and historical accounting and usage information. This same software can also be used to alert key staff of local campus water leaks or water interruption from utilities.

Omega's focus is to consider all of the various uses of water and maximize conservation by maximizing water efficiency or minimizing water use in the following key areas:

  • Water Management Planning
  • Distribution System Audits, Leak Detection and Repair

Less than 3% of the Earth’s water supply is fresh water.

Of all the earth's water, 97% is salt water found in oceans and seas.

Only 1% of the earth's water is available for drinking water. Two percent is frozen

The average American uses 140-170 gallons of water per day.

Each person needs to drink less than 1 gallon of water every day.

A person uses about 5 gallons of water if the water is left running while brushing teeth.

A leaky faucet can waste 100 gallons a day.

Landscaping accounts for about half the water used at home. Showers account for another 18 percent, while toilets use about 20 percent.
